It would seem that most weeks there is an article some place or another highlighting that a celebrity has visited a hypnotherapist for weight loss, or stopping smoking, or perhaps to gain a sporting edge or to cure a phobia. Whatever a celebrity does always creates media attention, but when a famous person sees a hypnotherapist the media circus escalates and it frequently creates front page news. Why is this? Is hypnotherapy really perceived as THAT unusual?
Hypnotherapy is still seen by many as a bit off-beat, even though it is a perfectly normal and natural art, just as yoga or meditation is normal and natural. Paul McKenna has done a fantastic job in promoting the value of hypnotherapy to the everyday person. He began his hypnotic career as a stage hypnotist which made a lot of people aware of the powerfulness of hypnosis; whilst over recent years McKenna has focused his attention on promoting its therapeutic benefits, turning his back on the stage hypnotist’s arena, even referring to his stage career as his “past life”.
There is nothing which promotes the use of hypnotherapy as effectively as the news that another celebrity has sought its help. Those people who have given their all to achieve the highest levels of ability and success share in common the habit of leaving no stone unturned in their thirst for knowledge, perfection, success or achievement, or whatever else it is they are passionate about. They have the mentality to question things, to seek cause and effect, as opposed to just accept things as they are or to believe everything that they are told. Limits to such great minds are not boundaries by which they are constrained; rather, limits tease their minds to find a way to stretch and overcome them.
Such people would not dream of using anything without first researching why and how it might work for them. They will have made an informed choice when making their decision to seek the services of a hypnotherapist. Most celebrities who turn to hypnosis do so because they have researched it and understand how powerful its assistance can be. They also have a burning desire, a passion to succeed and so will go to greater lengths than most in order to succeed. And this is a major key in whether or not it will be successful; if you were just to “give it a whirl” then you are not committed to what you are doing.
If you were to ask any of these people how much effort they expended in the use of hypnosis and how this equated to their level of success, they would ALL say that hypnosis was easy, quick, natural and took very little time, whilst the benefits were truly amazing. When in the world of weight gain, the problem in this whole upset of the human biology is actually rooted in the mind. Now when you start to gain weight, the reason behind this is usually psychological. Why do you eat over the limit? Hunger is a state of mind and sometimes being full is a state of mind as well. If it was an exclusively physiological state of the body, where hunger and the state of not being hungry is ruled by the internal chemical reactions - neck down - then no one will actually gain weight to an extreme level and obesity will not be a problem. Because when we think about it, the human body is a very efficient machine when it is operating at normal health levels. Therefore, our body will only consume what is sufficient in order to keep us alive - nothing more than that.
The body will use whatever it needs and throw away what it doesn’t. This is called the calorie maintenance weight that the body maintains to ensure that all the internal functions are above board. This is where the mind can be the weakest link in the body, and it is proven that because of this, the mind is the most powerful entity in the body. Emotions and intangible functions in the body can overcome the physiological functions in the body.

When someone is stressed, it overcomes the natural functions of appetite, and it seems that we eat to feel better. This is the same for depression, sadness and nervousness - in fact, most of the negative functions of the brain. So, we can see that the actual problem of weight gain is the same as all addictions, which is inside the mind and usually, many people would think that the one method to actually root out the addiction is to use mind control techniques like hypnosis to make the mind want to lose weight and skew the mind to lose weight.
Now, the problem with hypnosis is that there is no way to measure whether or not the actual method actually works to rid the mind of this addiction. The experiences of those who have actually gone through this method is mixed - most of the patients do lose some initial weight but the relapse rate is high.
The weight that they do lose is also minimal - something of 1 - 5% of a normal placebo group which just did normal exercise and diet. But this should not take away from the methods of brain manipulation to get rid of the addiction of eating and incur weight loss in the body naturally. Positive thinking hypnotherapy—sounds like a term straight out of a science fiction novel. There is nothing remotely fictional about it, actually, and if you practice positive affirmations, or saying positive things out loud to affirm yourself, then you might have an idea what positive thinking hypnotherapy is all about. But what is it, really? And is it for everyone?
Hard as it is to believe, positive thinking does have its share of critics who claim that it is nothing more than foolish and time-wasting idealism. Worse, they even justify negativity as being realistic. But Sir Winston Churchill said it best: “The optimist sees opportunity in every danger; the pessimist sees danger in every opportunity.”
Even more vilified than positive thinking is hypnosis. People tend to think of hypnosis as some eerie form of mind control, the person being hypnotized completely at the mercy of the hypnotist doing his/her every bidding. And, heaven forbid, it should be used as actual therapy!
There is some truth to this, however. Mind control does, in fact, take place; but it is the person undergoing hypnosis who takes full control of his/her own mind; the hypnotherapist is merely a guide.
Our minds have a mysterious component known as the subconscious. It is here that all of our beliefs, memories, and experiences lay. What hypnotherapy does is reach into the subconscious and try to influence it, change it somehow, so that we may alter what it is we find undesirable about ourselves.
This method can be quite effective at helping us overcome fears or phobias, resolve self-esteem issues, or give up destructive habits and addictions like substance abuse and smoking, respectively.
So neither positive thinking nor hypnotherapy is deserving of the bad rep, really.
Positive thinking hypnotherapy is more specific, utilizing the power of positive thinking to instill in you an optimistic attitude. The idea is to reprogram your thoughts, actions, and reactions so that you are able to see the positive side to every situation more clearly and act or react accordingly, even when your mind is on autopilot mode.
This means that you automatically gravitate towards the positive, even when you are unaware of it. This will help you to become calmer and more focused when faced with a potential problem, and therefore, more attuned to the possibility—nay, inevitability—of a solution.
When you think positive, everything else just seems to fall into place. Or if they don’t, you are able to find other ways to make them fall into place (or come very close to it) because your positive approach will simply not allow you to wallow in defeat and surrender.
So if you find yourself saying ‘nay’ more than ‘yay,’ perhaps a bit more optimism in your life is what you need. Have a go at positive thinking hypnotherapy and give your subconscious a right good shake and a positive spin.

What can we do to help ourselves? If we set out with the attitude of imagining that no health care existed, or no health care would be available, perhaps we might take a little bit more care of ourselves.
Illness generally manifests itself in the human body as a reflection of how we think and how we live our lives. We should listen to our bodies and question what disease or illness is telling us, and then take steps to change. Blood pressure is an easy ailment to work with. We know that if you learn to relax your blood pressure will lower. Now, I’m not saying to not go to the doctor - I am merely pointing out that there are things which can be done which are complementary to the medical advice which you are given.
If you ignore the messages which your body is providing for you, your body has an uncanny knack of providing you with another symptom and will keep doing so until you begin to listen. Your body is a self-healing organism. It is designed to heal itself and will do so providing that you give it the correct environmental conditions.
