Sound Effects to Help Sleep

Sound Effects to Help Sleep

It is only Spain that practices having power naps in the afternoon. Then again, you cannot blame the Spanish. They have to recharge in order to face the hot afternoon. Considering that there were not yet any sound effects programs then.

But in the fast-paced modern world that we are living in, we have to refrain from sleeping too many hours in the afternoon. That is why we are so tired in the evening when we finish the day’s work. The problem is we do not fall asleep easily. We suffer from insomnia. It’s either we are too stressed, worried or anxious, that our bodies still cannot cope.

There are so many programs online that are created to help people to sleep. By creating a unique blend of music ranging from sounds to sound effects to spoken words, you will fall asleep in no time. This soothing kind of music ensures your mind will not get bored the very minute it hears the program.

Technology allows the music to be exported to an mp3 player, ipod or a CD so that you don’t have to connect your earphones on your desktop and push your bed beside it.

Most of the time, the software has special sound effects that are designed for daytime nap as well as bedtime. The installation is so easy that all you have to do is a click of your mouse here and there.

Sound Effects to Help SleepYou wouldn’t have to encounter any problem because the main controls of these programs is just like any media player. There’s the play, the pause, then the stop. Then there are also buttons that give you access to other special features such as setting how long the snooze time is as well as creating the appropriate balance between the speaking voice, the background music and the sound effects. It also allows the user to convert the nap sound system to any media he prefers.

Which brings us to the next question. Does this actually work? A lot of people say it does. By listening to the relaxing music, they eventually dose off. Therefore, these programs are able to pull off what it has originally set out to do. Soon enough, the person is already asleep.

These sound effect CDS have a range of different sounds which the customer can select from.

Nature sounds have clearly been the most popular choice. Sounds like the ocean, surf on the beach, gulls flying overhead, the waves lapping on the shore are so soothing that it actually brings the listener to the beach.

Then there are also the wind sounds which range from soft breeze to a wind howl that could mean a storm or a hurricane is coming. Some sound effects also include wind and key chimes.

Amazingly, there are also the sounds from the swamp. From the croaking frogs to the rustling of the crickets; it’s like you’re camping. If the jungle is more of your thing, there are also jungle sounds. Call of the wild is just within your ears’ reach.

If that’s not enough, there is also the rainforest program that has ambient sounds teleporting you deep into the rainforests. You will also hear tropical birds and dripping water.

If animals are not really your thing and would prefer a more peaceful scenery, then go for the pastoral. The only sounds you will hear are those heard on the fields and meadows. Then there’s the running stream nearby and the church bells from the distance.

If you grew up in a farm, you can also teleport yourself back there by downloading a software of farm sounds. Pigs, chickens, birds and sheep, it’s like sleeping in your hometown again.

The other selections of sound effects that have been proven quite popular to the consumer are the cicadas in the jungle, the crickets in the wind, the birds in the trees, the duck pond, the frogs in a stream and the early morning.

With these sounds that have been programmed by modern technology, there’s no surprise that you will actually be there when you listen to these programs.

Sleep - Get Some!

Sleep - Get Some!

You had it last week and you will get it next week, so you ignore today’s portion. You think that you can get away with it, but, in reality, it will get to you. You can not do without this, even you, you cannot do without it, yet you try and try and try, and each time, you fall flat on your face. And then you begin again next week and try again. You cannot do without this.

How many times a year are you going to learn and re-learn the lesson that sleep is one of the most important things that you can have for yourself. If you do not get enough sleep, your body will not be at its’ most healthy space. Once you begin losing sleep on a regular basis, it is extremely hard to catch up. Seems like that is the never-ending battle, catching up on lost sleep. I will give you some ideas on how to catch up, little by little. Only try what is safe for you to do.

Sleep - Get Some!Try these:

1. Before going to sleep, put some earphones into your ears, the ear buds or small headphones. Put on some soothing music or some boring talk radio show. You will fall asleep and most likely sleep through the night.

2. Have a nice bowl of mashed potatoes -the natural sleeping pill. Have some kind of food that generally makes you tired. And then go to sleep about half-hour or hour later. Do not drink liquids as these will wake you out of a sleep.

3. Read. Read a really boring book while in a reclining position. Put a pillow under your head, and go to sleep while reading.

4. Write in your journal for a while. Watch some soothing television (put a nice video in), and then go to bed.

5. If necessary, sometimes, but not every night, take an Excedrin PM or Tylenol PM to help you sleep. Do not take sleeping pills or over-the-counter sleeping pills. You just do not need them.

These are just suggestions. Only do what is safe for you to do. Only you know your own body and your own life. When needing professional help (r e: sleeping pills, insomnia or narcolepsy), contact a doctor, professional or counselor.

Sleep Help - Start With Eliminating the Noise!

Sleep Help - Start With Eliminating the Noise!

For some of us, it becomes almost chronic in nature and it affects every area of our life. Not only are we robbing ourselves of the sleep that we desperately need at night, making it difficult to get through these long night hours, but it can also make us irritable and lethargic during the day. We need eight solid hours if we are adults or our immune systems start to flag and our physical well being becomes dis-orientated.

If you are having a difficult time dealing with day to day life as a result of not being able to sleep at night, one very good starting point is to eliminate the surrounding noise!

Far too many of us have to deal with noise on a regular basis and it gets to the point where we may not even recognize that it is happening. A good example of this is falling asleep with the television set on, or wearing earphones to listen to music or a talking book. Many of us will say that we need that noise in the background in order for us to be able to sleep. What some have called “white noise”.

What we don’t realize, however, is that the noise of the television set or the sounds from the earphones are actually keeping us from falling into a deep sleep. We may doze and sleep lightly but the later, truly deep sleep, will not take place.

The noise we hear from the television is often just a mask to hide other noise that may be going on in the background. If you want to achieve truly deep sleep and wake feeling rejuvenated, eliminate all of the noise that you possibly can from your home.

Sleep Help - Start With Eliminating the Noise! This can be a real challenge if you have a family that stays up late, or teenagers that enjoy late night music, or you are on shift work and the day-time noise is loud or there is noise in the same room as you are trying to sleep, such as if somebody is snoring. The only real way for you to get around this is to wear some kind of earplug or headset. You might be surprised to find out that putting some earplugs in on a nightly basis is going to help you to sleep without waking up periodically. If you do this, make sure that you have a backup alarm set which will be able to be heard, even with your earplugs in.

You also need to make the rest of the family aware of your needs. They need to know what is going on and make some sacrifices for those members who are “light sleepers”.

You may need to move your sleeping space to a room further away from the family noise, or to the back of your house away from the road traffic, for example. Fix the dripping down-pipe outside your bedroom, insulate the windows from the neighborhood noise and make sure the phone isn’t going to ring.

It may take a little bit of work on your part in order to discover what noises need to be removed from your household but it will all be worth the effort, however, for whenever you finally get the good night’s sleep that you need you will feel so much more energetic and fresh the next day.

Relaxation Techniques For Sleeping

Relaxation Techniques For Sleeping
Relaxing is not the same as sleeping. Many people sleep without being very relaxed, and although relaxing can lead one to yawn or feel sleepy, it need not lead to sleep.

Learning Relaxation techniques for sleeping can certainly help you to get to sleep more easily, and then to sleep more restfully.

Sleep is a vital part of life: muscle tissues are repaired and growth hormones are secreted during sleep, and you have better muscle tone and coordination when well rested. Sleep bolsters the immune system, and the molecules that provide mental energy for thinking and creating are restored during sleep.

Did you know?

Insomnia now affects over half of all adults.
• Relaxation techniques for sleeping have been proven to be effective for insomnia.
• These techniques improve sleep by producing brain wave patterns that are similar to the early stages of sleep.

One popular non-drug treatment for insomnia is relaxation techniques. The use of these Relaxation techniques for sleeping is based on the fact that individuals who suffer from insomnia exhibit elevated brain arousal that is associated with excessive mental activity during the night

Although meditation and relaxation techniques are widely used to treat a variety of health problems (including hypertension, headaches, anxiety, and irritable bowel syndrome) and have also been used successfully to treat insomnia, it has been presumed that these techniques work.

Dozens of scientific studies have proven that the Relaxation techniques for sleeping is an effective treatment for insomnia.

Relaxation Techniques For SleepingFor a sample relaxation technique, try this simple exercise:

Sleeping with the window open will help the air to circulate in your bedroom and fill your lungs with fresh air. Relaxation techniques will help your body to wind down and prepare for the sleep cycle.

1.Take a deep breath.

2.Breathe in through your nose and visualize the air moving down to your stomach.

3.As you breathe in again silently count to four.

4.Purse your lips as you exhale slowly.

5.This time count silently to eight.

6.Repeat this process six to ten times.

Uses for progressive relaxation techniques has been effective in the treatment of muscular tension, anxiety, insomnia, depression, fatigue, irritable bowel, muscle spasms, neck and back pain, high blood pressure, mild phobias, and stuttering.

Progressive relaxation can be practiced while lying on your back or sitting in a chair with your head supported.

By practicing 15-20 minutes a day or several mini sessions of five minutes each, a person generally gains relative mastery in about two weeks.

Relaxation Techniques For Teenagers

Help teens get the sleep they need Most teens require at least nine hours of sleep but get much, much less.

To sleep well, a teen needs to be at ease…both physically and emotionally. If a tenn learns to soothe himself and is able to calm his body and mind, he will be able to thrive, even in the toughest of times.

Relaxation techniques appear to help teenagers fight off frequent migraines or tension headaches.

Teenagers, like adults, may experience stress everyday and can benefit from learning stress management skills. Most teens experience more stress when they perceive a situation as dangerous, difficult, or painful and they do not have the resources to cope.

Helping our teenagers to get adequate sleep is a daunting task, but there are things that you can do to help.

For a sample relaxation technique, try this

• Stress the importance of a consistent bedtime.

• Help teens to learn relaxation techniques in order to unwind and signal the body that it’s time for sleep. Encourage them to practice creative visualisation and progressive relaxation techniques. Putting their thoughts and worries in a journal often helps them to put their problems to rest, enabling them to sleep.

• Have them turn off all electronic equipment (including phones) at least an hour before bed.

• Discourage them from drinking caffeinated drinks in the afternoon and evening.

• Encourage regular exercise, especially outside in the morning. (Morning sunshine can help to reset the internal clock.)

• Although teens are likely to sleep in on the weekend, don’t let them sleep in for more than a total of two hours over the entire weekend.

• Simulate the dawn by opening the curtains and turning on the lights an hour before your teen needs to get up.

• And don’t forget to warn them about the dangers of driving while drowsy!

Treatment for Chronic Insomnia

Treatment for Chronic Insomnia

Insomnia is the most common sleep problem reported by adults. Approximately one-half of all adults have occasional sleep problems during the course of any year.

Insomnia is the most common sleep problem reported by adults. Approximately one-half of all adults have occasional sleep problems during the course of any year. Insomnia is characterized by the inability to fall asleep or to maintain sleep, usually due to an underlying condition or cause. Both men and women of all ages suffer from insomnia, but it is more common in females and older adults. Individuals suffering from insomnia may experience any or all of the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty falling asleep
  • Difficulty staying asleep
  • Waking too early in the morning

Typically, insomnia is associated with feelings of restlessness, irritability, anxiety, unrefreshing sleep, and daytime fatigue. Medical or psychiatric conditions that are sometimes associated with insomnia include depression, anxiety, substance abuse disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and chronic medical conditions. Medications and other substances, such as caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine, can also play an important role in the development or persistence of insomnia. Some commonly used medications, such as antidepressants, antihypertensive, antihistamines, and decongestants, have been known to cause insomnia and sleep disruption. Before discontinuing any medication, however, it is very important to discuss your concerns with your doctor first.

For most people with insomnia, the symptoms last a few days to weeks, and then resolve spontaneously. In many of these cases, the underlying cause of insomnia may be a transient life stress or change in the daily routine of an individual. However, for those who have chronic insomnia, lasting for three months or longer, the effects of poor sleep can take a significant toll on quality of life and general well-being. The effects of chronic insomnia include reduced quality of life, impaired social functioning, diminished work productivity, missed work days, impaired memory and concentration, and depression. In essence, chronic insomnia can deprive individuals of their ability to function both socially and professionally, which can then lead to increasing problems in these areas of life.

In addition to decreased job performance, insomnia is associated with increased absenteeism. People with insomnia are at increased risk for various kinds of accidents, both at work and while operating motor vehicles.

Treatment for Chronic Insomnia

Managing Insomnia

Chronic insomnia is characterized by its chronicity. Thus, individuals with chronic insomnia can expect that the problem may be life-long. However, there are successful treatments available that can help to control the severity and to minimize the long-term effects of insomnia.

Scientific research has demonstrated that the most successful treatment protocol for chronic insomnia is a combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is a series of behavioral interventions used to improve one’s ability to initiate and to maintain sleep. Specifically, CBT is a group of techniques that can be learned to help one sleep better. Generally, CBT is conducted in individual or small group formats, over a period of several weeks. As mentioned earlier, CBT is most successful in conjunction with medication for the treatment of chronic insomnia. However, treatment with medication is not required in every case.

So what exactly is CBT?

CBT encompasses several different techniques, which may be used all together or individually. These various techniques include sleep hygiene training, relaxation therapy, stimulus control therapy, sleep restriction, and cognitive therapy. Sleep hygiene training refers to re-learning habits that encourage and promote sleep. Maintenance of a quiet sleep environment may mean excluding a pet from the bedroom or getting a bed partner to seek help for a snoring problem. Relaxation therapy helps to reduce physiologic and cognitive arousal at bedtime. Some people may be unaware of how tension and stress affect their sleep. Stimulus control therapy works by limiting the presence of external stimuli or factors that may bring anxiety or stress into the bedroom environment. Implementation of this technique can help to establish the bedroom as a place to relax and unwind, away from the stresses of the world. Sleep restriction limits the amount of time spent lying awake in bed. This technique requires close oversight by a physician or psychologist, using sleep diaries, to ensure successful treatment. Cognitive therapy works to refute an individual’s thoughts about sleeplessness and the fear and anxiety related to these thoughts. Cognitive therapy has the potential to provide patients with good tools to deal with insomnia.

CBT is generally conducted by psychologists or physicians with specialized training in these techniques. Unfortunately, CBT for chronic insomnia is not readily available everywhere; however, by doing some research through internet resources or by contacting the National Sleep Foundation (www.sleepfoundation.org) or the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (www.aasmnet.org), you may be able to find someone in your area. At the Dallas Center for Sleep Disorders, we offer Insomnia Workshops with CBT for chronic insomnia. You can contact us for more information (www.dallas-sleep.com or 972-473-7300).

Chinese Medicine For Curing Insomnia Naturally

Chinese Medicine For Curing Insomnia Naturally

Chinese traditional medicine has been practiced for many thousands of years but it was not really until the middle of the twentieth century that it was used widely in many western countries. More often referred to today as alternative medicine, Chinese medicine is used widely nowadays as a natural treatment for insomnia.

The modern practice of traditional Chinese medicine brings together many thousands of years of medicine practiced in China including the use of Chinese medicine for curing insomnia naturally. The term ‘traditional Chinese medicine’ is a relatively modern term first used by the People’s Republic of China during the 1950s when the country was attempting to build a substantial export trade for its time honored medicines and practices.

Today, traditional Chinese medicine does not simply encompass medicinal products, but also includes such things as herbal preparations and a range of practices including acupuncture and massage. The basis of Chinese medicine is that the human body functions as the result of a number of interrelated processes which are in constant interaction with our environment. As long as these processes remain in balance you are healthy. However, if these processes are not running alongside one another smoothly, then your health will suffer.

There are a number of different philosophies which govern the practice of Chinese medicine including such things as the theory of Yin-Yang, the role of the five elements (earth, water, fire, wood and metal), the flow of energy through the meridians of the body and the interaction between the organs of the body as described in the theory of Zang-Fu.

For many years there has been considerable conflict between those who follow traditional Chinese medical practices and those who believe in the science-based practice of western medicine. Today however Chinese medicine, along with other forms of Asian and Oriental medicine, is increasingly being accepted in the west and today we commonly refer to such practices as alternative medicine.

Chinese Medicine For Curing Insomnia Naturally

For many millions of sufferers, herbal remedies have long proved to be effective in curing insomnia, or in relieving insomnia symptoms, and such things as chamomile, lavender, lemon balm and passion flower have long been known for their medicinal properties. There cannot be many insomnia sufferers who have not taken a drink of hot honey with lemon balm before retiring for the night.

An increasing number of people are also turning to acupuncture or, for those who don’t fancy the idea of needles, acupressure. Both arts have been practiced for centuries and the principles were born out of the traditional Chinese practice of adjusting the energy within the body by controlling its flow along the meridian lines.

Despite its growing acceptance there are still many people who are wary of Chinese medicine but anyone who has experienced it in action, particularly those of us who have been fortunate enough to spend time living in the Far East, will certainly vouch for its effectiveness.

If you suffer from insomnia then using Chinese medicine for curing insomnia naturally is one route which you should consider seriously.

How To Get Rid Of Insomnia?

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder. Insomniacs are not able to fall sleep or not able to remain asleep for a reasonable amount of time. There are three types of insomnia, transient, acute and chronic. Transient insomnia could be caused by jet lag, short term anxiety or weariness during the day. This kind lasts from a night to a few days or weeks. Acute insomnia, on the other hand, is measured when the inability to sleep is already lasting for three to six weeks. Lastly, chronic insomnia, the most serious among the three, last for at least a month and become recurrent.

Warm milk and herbal teas are other ways to treat insomnia. The warmth of either is soothing to your throat and stomach, and dilates the blood vessels to your face and neck which help you to relax. Milk contains a healthy dose of calcium, which is known to work with your nerves in such a way that it encourages relaxation.

One of the most common side effects of insomnia is fatigue or drowsiness during the day, which results from not getting enough sleep at night. Your body and brain not only require a certain amount of sleep, they also need good quality sleep in order to function properly. You could wind up getting a full 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night, but if that sleep comes in fits and stages throughout the night, you’ll be suffering the effects of sleep deprivation. In order to enter deep sleep, your rest needs to be uninterrupted.

Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that helps sleep. The ancient Chinese treatment of acupuncture stimulates the production of serotonin. With acupuncture, small sterile needles are inserted into specific points in the body. It has proven to have a calming effect on the nervous system and alleviates the imbalances that cause insomnia.

The Ayurvedic treatment of insomnia is aimed at treating the symptoms and correcting the basic cause of the condition. Cognitive behavioral therapies which include sleep hygiene, relaxation therapy, stimulus control and sleep restriction are simple non-medical therapies which work very well for insomnia and should be used for all patients as the first line of management for this condition. Light, and sunlight in particular, are your friends when it comes to relieving insomnia.

That’s because light regulates melatonin, a brain chemical that is responsible for controlling body temperature. When your body temperature follows normal rhythms of day and night, you are more likely to sleep well.

Prepare some insomnia herbal tea (recommended: chamomile or passionflower) and drink it before heading off to bed. A cup or two is all you need to induce sleepiness and relaxation. Don’t add sugar for taste, even if you REALLY want to. Sugar is a stimulant which will prevent you from getting to sleep quickly.

Lavender is very useful and effective in its usage as a sleep aid. In addition to the use of lavender flowers in a brewed tea, it may also used in the form of an essential oil distilled from the leaves, flowers and stems of the plant.

A Hypnotherapy Script for Sleep ProblemsInsomnia Script

[The client should first receive an induction and deeper]

And in this wonderful state of physical as well as mental relaxation…. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to… let your mind wander… You might like to imagine yourself resting peacefully beside a warm ocean… Good… and perhaps now, or in a few moments time… you can begin to feel how calming it is… as the soft waves ebb and flow… ebb and flow… ebb and flow… regular and uninterrupted… like clockwork… ebb and flow… ebb and flow…

And you probably already know… that your body has it’s own clock… ebb and flow… that tells your body when it’s time to sleep… and when to wake…

And I’m reminded of a friend of mine who owned a old wooden mantle-piece clock with a brass face… it rested above the fire and would chime softly on the hour, every hour… and sometimes he would be so deeply occupied that he wouldn’t even hear the clock…

Ebb and flow… imagine those waves reaching gently for the shore and then slipping back…

One day someone found the key and wound the clock too tightly… and the coils inside became so tight that it’s rhythm changed… instead of keeping perfect time… the clock struck too early…

The gentle motion of the waves…

Of course my friend didn’t know exactly why the rhythm changed… so he visited a clockmaker, and the clockmaker knew just how to fix it… he knew that if a clock is wound too tightly it can gain time too quickly… he told my friend that he needed to let it unwind… and be gentle with it…

And of course you know that’s just what my friend did… he let it unwind… and was gentle with it… and the rhythm was perfect again…Read more on hypnotherapy course.
